Peachy Keen Guitars

Custom made guitars in Indiana

About Ron Keen, Luthier

I've been playing guitars since the mid 1970's.  My career was as an electrical engineer, so I've always had an interest in physics and mathematics as well.  I have also always enjoyed woodworking.  On retiring from my career, I decided to utilize my interests and skills in all of these areas and started making acoustic guitars.  I've studied the works of many luthiers and have investigated the physics of acoustic guitars, so they are all individually tuned based on the wood used and the customer's desires.  I can take your wishes for a specific sound or look and transform that into a custom guitar.

There are advantages to having your next guitar custom-made versus purchasing one off the rack at a music store. First of all, you get the guitar you always wanted. Adornments like mother of pearl or abalone shell, specific wood types, body size or shape, certain sound, even action for your playing style can all be custom designed and built for you. A custom made guitar is also going to be much more responsive than what comes off the rack. As a luthier, I take the time to design the individual elements, characterize the wood, and build it while listening to the tap tones in order to provide a guitar with excellent projection. Production guitars are built on an assembly line and aren't necessarily tuned, as that would slow down production and run up the cost.

I also offer two features that are not found on production guitars. I am now offering Falcate (curved) bracing that allows better vibration of the top soundboard, and I can also provide a compensated nut (not just the saddle) to further improve the intonation of the guitar. A straight nut causes slight mis-tuning at the lower frets, but a compensated nut can bring the tuning in much more accurately.

Email me with your desires for a custom guitar and let me try to help you get the best guitar you could ever imagine.
